Tour the show home or home the builder built for past buyers:
If you have narrowed down a list of builders for your dream home, tour one of their show homes. This is one of the most important steps in the process. When touring a show home consider the do's and don'ts of touring a show home.
Make a plan to go through the show home. Review the floor plan, the builder's website and any reviews on the builder prior to going to the show home.
Take your time.
Look at the details of the home including minor details.
Document the things you like. If you have a significant other have them document the things they like and compare notes.
Don't be quiet. Ask lots of questions:
- What is the builders' warranty?
- What is included in the home - standard and builders options?
- What is the design process?
- How long does it take to build?
- How many builders are building in the community?
- And any other questions.
Don't look at ten show homes in a day.
